Ben's Christmas Wish
Elaine Ingalls Hogg

My name's Ben Nevis, a pampered wee pet
And I have but one problem rare
I get into trouble from time to time,
Chasing cats around a chair.

I chased her round and round that house
From living room to den
I forgot that it was Christmas time-
And the vow of Peace, good will to men

My owners said, "enough of that!"
And brought to me another toy
They didn't share my point of view-
The cat exists to bring dogs joy.

I told Mr. Santa I saw a toy
That would substitute just fine,
A teddy underneath my tree
Instead of a cat that climbed.

I took the toy and played with it
And no matter how I tried
I couldn't keep from opening it
To find what was stuffed inside

Now Christmas time has rolled around
And as I wait beneath the tree
I think that I shall have some fun
With all the Teddies, just for me.

Merry Christmas
